After another year of screenings in Camden Palace Hotel, we'd like you to have your say in what gets shown for the last screening of the year, on Thursday 13th December. Coming as it does in the run up to that yuletide celebration, we thought we'd have an anti-christmas theme to proceedings.

post SCRIPT Photo Exhibition
Humans can be more connected today, then ever before; information of all sorts can be delivered in the time it takes to email, text, tweet etc… Likewise, the improved accessibility of travel makes it possible to live in different places and experience the world more readily. Yet, overshadowing this ginormous, instantaneous ‘social network’ and accessibility, is an unspeakable sense of existential disconnection. Curator, Peggy Sue Amison, invited Irish and international photographers, artists who use photography in their practice, professionals embedded in the photographic art world and others to respond to this idea of connected/disconnection using the post in an attempt to challenge the immediacy of the now.
post SCRIPT curated by Peggy Sue Amison at The Camden Palace, Camden Quay, Cork. Opening Fri 19th Oct, 8pm.Running Sat 20th - Fri 30th November 2012. OPENING TIMES: Mon - Friday 12 - 5, Sat & Sun call for opening times.

Saturday 24th
Cabalista (noun) : [kab-uh-list-ah]
schemer, associate, member of a secret society or cabal
November 2012 sees the launch of the Cabalista project from Print Cabal.
Every month, Print Cabal will have one featured artist. We will work with that artist to select one of their pieces, and produce a limited edition run of screen prints. Some artists work will be on t-shirts or other wearable items, some will be high quality art prints. It will vary month-to-month.
The limited edition prints will be sold through the Print Cabal online store.
In addition to the limited edition prints, each month an additional 50 screen prints will be produced. These will be a basic one-colour version of the artwork, printed on newsprint. They will be given away for free as an 'Art Drop' in a different Cork city location each month.
Our first Cabalista is Anna Giersz, a Polish artist, illustrator, and photographer currently living in Cork. She has worked
with The Key and the Gate on posters for bands including The Ocean, Brains, and Tragedy, as well as t-shirt designs for People of the Monolith and Absolutist.
To see a sample of her work, you can visit Anna's current exhibition, running at the Quay Co-Op in Cork until the end of November, or take a look at her work though her website or Facebook page.
http://annagiersz.com/
We will be celebrating the launch of Anna's limited edition t-shirts on Saturday 24th, at our first monthly Cabalista Cafe. Join us at Print Cabal HQ, in the ballroom of Camden Palace Hotel arts centre. New Orleans Style Jazz Funeral
Camden Palace Dungeons
Axe-cidents happen at Halloween in Camden Palace Hotel. Halloween dungeons extravaganza 24th-31st Oct. 4-9pm.
Electric chairs, hangings, cruel punishments, and unfair trials are all taking place in Camden Palace Hotel for one week only this Halloween. Beginning on the 24th October the Cork based community arts centre is holding a week-long 'Horror Extravangaza' from 4-9pm with the final horror show taking place on Halloween night itself the 31st Ocotber.
Taking on a freaky funfair atmosphere the foyer will host all-ages entertainment and refreshments. Daring guests can take a tour of the Camden Palace dungeons to explore the darker corners of cork city. The visit is guided by a very special blood-sucking guest from Transylvania. Combined with a touch of the dramatic the aim of the event is to bring guests through a dream-like horror that is disturbingly real and absurd at the very same time.
The Camden Palace building lends itself well to the Halloween extravaganza which was partly inspired by the buildings’ own history as Cork city's temporary courthouse. The old courthouse jail cells grafitied by past inmates awaiting trial remain intact and will be open to guests during the week. Far from Hollywood horror other sources of inspiration for the over 16s show include medieval and modern torture methods, and basic human fears and vice.
As an independent non profit arts centre, currently receiving zero funding, Camden Palace Hotel are a self sufficient entity helped along by public donations and the hard work of volunteers. Camden Palace has invested all of their own resources to create a unique experience. The dungeon tour and and games have been designed and constructed by Camden Palace volunteers and crew. The combined effort of resident artists and volunteers has resulted in unique sets, props, and costumes of professional quality. Keeping in line with the economic times Camden Paace has created its own currency for the halloween event available at the entrance desk. Our DoleArt exchanges at a rate of 1,000,000,000 to €1 and is valuable within Camden Palace.
To cheer up frightened guests Halloween horrors will run concurrently to jazz weekend festivities in Camden Palace Hotel from 26th-29th. Kicking off on Friday 26th at 8pm a social dance night with live jazz band will be in the Camden Palace ballroom. Saturday 27th 12-4pm a screening of the best Montreux jazz performances in Camden Palace Hotel cinema, a jazzy halloween funeral parade at 4pm starting at the French quarter near Paul street and a final social dance night starting at 8pm.

Munster Literature Workshops
STORY ONTO STAGE WITH JACK HEALYThis workshop is designed for any one who is interested in looking to prose fiction as a source of material for the stage. You may be a theatre practitioner with a favorite story that you would like to experience in a dramatic form or you may be a short story writer who is interested in examining your own world of concerns from the point of view of theatre. Either way, this workshop could be just the thing for you. If you are a first time writer and are interested in writing a play, the process of adapting a story for the stage is a good introduction to the playwriting process. If you already have experience in another literary form, it provides a great way of giving a whole new take on the literary experience.
STORY INTO SONG WITH JOHN SPILLANE
At my songwriting workshops we actually write songs. In the past I have attended a few workshops where the participants play their songs only to be criticised by experts who talk down to them.
I was inspired to invent a novel approach, where we all sit down and write a finished song in one session. This teaches many lessons, including finishing things, which is often a big problem for writers. I create a space where all negativity, all criticism and judgement are locked outside.
We get down and dirty and write songs. First we write words. Then we assemble them in a certain order, using the tricks of the trade, verse, chorus, repitition, rhyme etc. Then we sing them and we have a song.
I try to come behind people and help them lose whatever inhibitions and fears they may have about writing songs.
Positivity is the key, and this can be applied to other parts of life also.
Anyone who signs up for my songwriting workshop should be prepared to sing, it doesn’t matter at all how good or bad a singer you think you are!
For the Story into Song Workshop we will all write a short simple song on day one, just to get everyone believing.
On day two we will focus on the theme of the festival, Story, and will examine and enjoy the Irish ballad tradition and see how a story may be told in a song, how the music can heighten the action.
We will look at the magical chemical reaction that happens when words and music meet.
Each participant will pick a theme and write one serious ballad which can be perfected over days three and four.
The aim is to have a lot of fun, write a lot of words and music, move quickly and not get bogged down.
Come along and write songs! Thank you, John Spillane.

We will be accepting workshop bookings from Monday April 16th.

Paradise Now
Presented by Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign.
September 15th
8pm
FREE ENTRY
Paradise Now is a 2005 film directed by Hany Abu-Assad about two Palestinian men preparing for a suicide attack in Israel. It won a Golden Globe for best foreign language film and was nominated for an Academy Award in the same category.
"The film is an artistic point of view of that political issue," Abu-Assad said. "The politicians want to see it as black and white, good and evil, and art wants to see it as a human thing."
In Hany Abu-Assad's Golden Globe acceptance speech he made a plea for a Palestinian state, saying he hoped the Golden Globe was “a recognition that the Palestinians deserve their liberty and equality unconditionally."
In an interview with Jewish American Tikkun magazine, Hany Abu-Assad was asked "When you look ahead now, what gives you hope?", "The conscience of the Jewish people" he answered. "The Jews have been the conscience of humanity, always, wherever they go. Not all Jews, but part of them. Ethics. Morality. They invented it! I think Hitler wanted to kill the conscience of the Jews, the conscience of humanity. But this conscience is still alive...Maybe a bit weak...But still alive. Thank God."
He has also stated in an interview to Tel Aviv-based newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth that had he been raised in the Palestinian territories instead of in his Arab-Israeli home city of Nazareth, he would have become a suicide bomber himself.

Ola's Story
Ola's Story, Friday 20th July at 8:00pm
This half hour film was produced as part of a film project that took place over the past eighteen months between Frameworks Films and Nasc - the Irish Immigrant Support Centre. Frameworks Films is a Cork based film production company that specialises in community based projects. Nasc - The Irish Immigrant Support Centre enables migrants to access justice and human rights and to work to ensure a just, inclusive and integrated society.
The aim of the project, which was funded under the Arts Participation Award from The Arts Council, was to explore the theme of cultural diversity through film. A group from Nasc collaborated with the film-makers from Frameworks to devise the idea for the docudrama and then to film and edit the film. The process- based nature of the project is reflected in the final piece, which includes footage of the idea being developed, interspersed with the film itself. Rather than making any definitive statement, it is hoped that the final piece can be used as a stimulus for discussion on the theme of cultural diversity.

Living In Emergency
Friday, May 25th at 8:00pm.
In the war-zones of Liberia and Congo, four volunteers with Doctors Without Borders struggle to provide emergency medical care under extreme conditions. With different levels of experience, each volunteer must find their own way to face the challenges, the tough choices, and the limits of their idealism. "Living in Emergency" is a window into the seldom portrayed and less-than glamorous side of humanitarian aid work. It explores a world that is challenging, complex, and fraught with dilemmas - the struggles, both internal and external, that aid workers face when working in war zones and other difficult contexts.
Admission: Donation.

‘Thanks Dad’
What if you never knew your father? Would your life be different? ‘Thanks Dad’ is a long overdue play about the father-daughter relationship. What makes fathers so important? What do daughters need from their fathers? What if you never knew your father? What if you knew your father, but you lost him?
‘Thanks Dad’ mixes well known classic scenes with a heart-warming, inspiring, moving contemporary story. ….
Tournado Theater Company is a Cork based company that aims to bring excellent theatre to communities in Ireland. We tell stories, ask questions, and want to start conversations about things that concern us all.

For Neda.
For Neda is the story of Neda Agha-Soltan whose tragic death on June 20, 2009 came to symbolize for many the struggle in Iran. What emerges is a portrait of a young woman whose ordinary desire for personal freedom and self-expression were confined by living in the Islamic Republic of Iran, but who showed tremendous courage in standing up for those freedoms. When President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad blatantly rigged the 2009 election, she marched with her compatriots in the street, even though she knew she was risking her life as the regime began a violent crackdown.
For Neda interweaves the story of Neda Agha-Soltan's life and death with a look at the larger Iranian struggle, especially for women, that led her to march in the Tehran streets on June 20. Azar Nafisi (author of "Reading Lolita in Tehran" and "Things I've Been Silent About") notes that women were the first and most severely treated targets of the reactionary laws imposed after the Iranian Revolution. Women were required to be covered in public, while the Basij, men and women charged with maintaining public order and decency, patrolled the streets harassing those they considered to be in violation.
Monday night 8pm at the Camden Palace we will screen FOR NEDA in co-operation with the Persian Community Cork.

Bouncers - Feb 9th & 10th
Bouncers written by John Godber
Directed by Simon Thompson.
Played by Stefan Barry, David Collins, Zeb Moore and Pius McGrath
Bursting with imagination and wit and presented by just four actors, Bouncers is an outrageous and hilarious parody of the nightclub scene. The four brutish bouncers of the title portray over twenty different characters as we are invited for a night out on the town. We see them as giggly girls and lads on the make preparing for the big night out as we follow their progress to the dance floor. There, we also meet an entire cross-section of revelers, including Hooray Henrys, pogoing punks and drunken slobs! The evening's events arc set against the tatty glitzy glamour, flashing lights and pulsating beat of the nightclub scene.
Camden Palace, Cork 9th and 10th Feb 8pm
