DIYCORK is a new festival set up to showcase Cork, its culture and people from May 14-20th. The festival is set to shine a light on the many small things that make Cork a great place to live in, encourage people to come together, share skills on a voluntary basis and make our own festival happen. So if you want to promote an existing project or organise a special once off event in your community such as weekly knitting circles, book clubs, parent and toddler groups, a community or street picnic, a youth disco, an art club, gig, walk, tour, food event, etc then get in touch. Everything is possible. Everything is included.

Who can get involved?
The festival is open to all individuals, community groups, resident groups, schools, youth groups and clubs, venues, active age groups, the business community, co-operatives and anyone else that wants to get involved

You have an idea but don't know how to make it happen?

Who is setting up diyCORK?
The festival is organised by everyone involved. It is a voluntary group made up of people from many varied backgrounds; community work, business, the arts. All are interested in the idea of a people's festival in the City. The festival is run on a voluntary basis and has no staff or funding for projects. It is run on the basis of people sharing their skills with each other

Does it cost money to be part of it?
There is a once off registration fee to submit your project and become a member of the festival €20 for groups and €5 for individuals. This fee will help cover costs of printing and publicity for the Festival

When does the festival take place? 
diyCork will take place from Monday 14th - Sunday 21st May 2012

When is the deadline for project entries?

Jakub's life arrived at a dead-end. He leaves his job, and gets into conflict with his father. The trouble just grows by his relation with a married woman. Breaking out, Jakub realizes the pleasures of the countryside in the old garden of his grandfather. He finds true love with an angel, and encounters various exciting moments of his new free life. Strange visitors arrive, and he won't get back to town anymore.

Voted the best Czech film ever made, Marketa Lazarová is a powerful and passionate medieval epic set in the mid-13th Century. Based on avant-garde writer Vladislav Vancura's novel, it follows the rivalry between two warring clans, the Kozlíks and the Lazars, and the doomed love affair of Mikolás Kozlík and Marketa Lazarová. Re-creating an authentic world and as reminiscent of Tarkovsky and Kurosawa as it is of the rich tapestry of Czech fiction, this ambitious and multi-layered film is the crowning achievement of Vlácil's career and one of the undiscovered cornerstones of world cinema.
