Description
This short course is a fun, gentle introduction to creative writing for people of all levels of
experience. We’ll take a look at some techniques used by actors and writers to enhance their
creativity, and put them into practice so that the process of having an idea, picking up a pen and beginning to write becomes enjoyable and effortless. At the end of the day participants will have collected together lots of ideas for future writing, and will have the confidence to continue.
CV
Kathy D’Arcy is a young writer whose first poetry collection, Encounter, was published by
Lapwing in 2010. She has worked as a doctor and a teacher, and is currently involved in youth work with homeless teenagers in Cork. Her first play, Retreat, was performed in the Granary theatre in 2008. This is My Constitution, a piece D’Arcy has compiled from archive material she found during research for her PhD on Irish women poets, is touring nationally after a successful run in Cork last year. She runs creative writing courses for young people, and with UCC’s Centre for Adult Continuing Education, and teaches on UCC’s MA in Women’s Studies programme. She has been a frequent guest on RTE Radio One’s popular arts show Arena, and the group of four women poets of which she is a member, Catch the Moon, has been invited to perform at several arts festivals this year. She is also involved as an actor and workshop facilitator in Studio Masterworks’ excellent theatre for schools programme.
