DESCRIPTION
CERAMICS HANDBUILDING WORKSHOP (10 weeks)
This workshop provides students with the opportunity to learn how to make hand built shapes with clay. The course covers the following hand building methods: press moulds, slab building, coiling, pinching, modelling, decorating techniques and glazing. You will gradually develop your skills starting with making basic flat objects, like tiles, plates or wall decorations, and later working on complex objects, like vessels and sculptural forms.
RAKU WORKSHOP (4 weeks)
Raku is a traditional Japanese technique for firing ceramics. It is exciting and challenging method of fast firing when a red hot ceramics piece is taken out from kiln with metal tongs and placed in sawdust for oxidation reaction. This firing technique gives a unique and beautiful effect to glazes. You will have the opportunity to make your own ceramic piece, glaze it and then fire it in a Raku kiln.
