Camden Palace Hotel Community Arts Centre kick-starts the month of April with April Fools – a kaleidoscope of exhibition and performance.

The resident artists and friends of Camden Palace Hotel join forces to produce a comprehensive programme which showcases the broad spectrum of their work.

A variety of exciting workshops also commence in April, and from the 12th to the 16th we are working in conjunction with this years ‘Lifelong Learning Festival’. There’s an offering to tempt every palette with new and exciting work in a diversity of artforms.

With a strong emphasis on visual art, there will be an exhibition running throughout the month of April. Exhibits will include contributions from painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, ceramics, mosaic, installation and multimedia. In addition, there will be the opportunity for a limited number of guided tours of the building, including the artists studios.

The April Fools programme contains a unique combination of events and performances.

Camden Palace Hotel is excited to host ‘The Day of Laughter’ – a practical exploration of the laughter epidemic. We’ve got puppets, circus performance, and truly amazing costumes.

There will be displays of Capoeira, screenings of films from around the world and down the hall, and a whole day of Body painting.

Upcoming dramatic productions include ‘5 kinds of silence’, ‘Shakespeare Show’ and a series of rehearsed readings with Camden Palace Theatre Co-Op.

With a ceilí and the International Day of Dance on the cards, there’s going to be all kinds of shapes being thrown. Not to mention singing with the Shape Note Singers, and, at the end of the month, April Fools closes with an array music of a very different kind.

Camden Palace Hotel launches April Fools on Friday April 1st at 6pm.

No really. Honestly.

We are hosting the launch of the exhibition and there will be treats and surprises from a selection of performers (not nasty ones now, nice treats and surprises). It won’t just be you, standing there, alone in the rain, rattling at a locked door and listening out for sniggering as you’re being broadcast live on Youtube as some kind of performance piece. We wouldn’t do that. Well, probably not anyway. The launch of April Fools promises to be fun, interesting and should have a bit of something to appeal to everyone.

We look forward to seeing you there. If you’re brave enough.

Don’t worry. It’ll all be okay.

April 1st, 6pm. No Messing.
