Stop, Develop and Fix – Darkroom Beginners
Learn how to process your own film, store and edit your work and bring to life your own images in the Darkoom in Camden Palace Hotel, Cork City.
Details for the workshops are as follows -
Week 1 - The processing room, etiquette and safety, processing your own film and handling your negatives. (It is essential to come to class with at least 2 rolls of traditional process (non c41) black and white film shot and ready to develop.) An introduction to the creative darkroom making photograms – you will construct images using man made and natural found objects.
Week 2 - Process film, darkroom safety & etiquette, cutting and storing negatives, contact sheet making and basic editing, you will make contact sheets for films processed during previous week.
Week 3 - Printing in the darkroom, working with test strips and multigrade filters to create final images from your own negatives.
Week 4 – Process film, make contact sheets or print images. Spend the class putting to work your new found skills.
note: you will need a ring binder file or suitable box for transporting and storing your negatives and images. Chemicals and paper are provided for the beginners class.
Once you have taken this class and grasped the basic wizardry of the Darkroom you are welcome to book printing and processing time during our supervised schedule.

Wed 5 – 8pm
Thurs 5 – 8pm
Fri 5 – 8pm
Sat 11 – 5pm
Booking ahead is essential to ensure your space.
Black & white 35mm or medium format printing:
3 hour printing session €12
Saturday printing session 11 – 5pm €23
Process your own black and white film (non c41) -
35mm & 120 roll – €3 per roll
negative sheets – €0.25
Film is not dead it just smells funny, we stock a limited amount of 35mm and 120 roll and paper for sale in the darkroom.
